Trip to the vineyards

Summer is here and that means it's time once again to plan a
visit to your favorite vineyards. There are several issues that you need
to consider when doing so.

1. If you're like most people, you'll plan your trip to the vineyards on
the weekend. Of course this means you'll be sharing the road with most
people. In the past few years going east to the vineyards has become
extremely popular and has, at times, caused serious traffic issues.

2. Wine contains alcohol. Now, most people should be fine keeping it to a
couple of tastings. Thing is, there are so many vineyards and so many
varieties of wine limiting yourself is tough.

3. As above, there are so many vineyards, how do you know which ones to visit?

Long Island Merlot Alliance produces a winner

I had heard of this organization but until recently I hadn't had the opportunity to try the actual Merlot. Yesterday I did get to try it and you can see the review area of the site to read about it.

This organization consists of the following vineyards which all provide thier best grapes for producing the Merlot.

Castello di Borghese, Clovis Point, McCall Vineyard, Pellegrini Vineyards, Raphael, Sherwood House Vineyards, Wölffer Estate Vineyard and Honorary Member, Louisa Thomas Hargrave.

Here's a little information taken from their website, http://www.longislandmerlot.com

Pairings don't always work the way you think they should

dont knowSaturday my wife decided to use some of the peppers we had grown in our garden to make a quick meal.

Eventually this consisted of peppers (green, red and yellow), onions, sun dried tomatoes. garlic and a little bit of chicken. Added to that were salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning (basil, oregano, etc), red pepper and a splash of wine. To give it an Asian edge, we also added a touch of roasted sesame oil. All of this was cooked in light extra virgin olive oil. To this mixture we added rigatoni pasta and stirred well.

How Can I Tell If My Old Wine Is Still OK to Drink?
Image: e107_images/newspost_images/thumb_wine.jpg

Most people, upon seeing a dusty old wine bottle that has been stored seemingly forever, would simply deduce that the bottle of wine is still in good condition. There is a common misconception that wine tastes better after it has aged. However, not all wines do get better with age. approximately 95% of the world's wines are meant to be consumed relatively quickly, as they are not meant to age. Only the finest and most expensive wines are created to benefit from a watchful aging process performed at controlled temperatures. One rarely sees wine that turns into vinegar, as it used to do in the old days. These days, wine turns brown, flat and dull after going through oxidation caused from long and improper storage.
